What?
Several months ago, the Battlefield of Things hackathon took place, a two-day event on a military base where innovation was central. Experts and the Belgian Defence joined forces to create smart, affordable, and user-friendly IoT solutions for real defense challenges. Think of surveillance in dense rainforests or protection during urban combat.
The EUnify team presented an autonomous tracking node with a long range – easy to use and field-ready. EUnify won awards later at the EUDIS hackathon 2024, where they also made an impression.
Their solution is flexible in deployment, from peacekeeping missions to conflict situations. Thanks to protection against spoofing and jamming and a smart network of fixed and mobile nodes, the system ensures reliable data communication, accurate positioning, and intelligent object detection via AI. Everything operates without external systems – completely autonomous and private.”
How?
After the hackathon, EUnify immediately followed through. They refined their concept together with the Belgian Defence and established the technical specifications. With support from Verhaert’s embedded Lab, they developed a working prototype of the printed circuit board and an enclosure, allowing them to test the product comprehensively. The result? A solid Minimum Viable Product, ready for the next step.
Significant work was also done on the commercial side. Under the guidance of Verhaert’s strategic innovation experts, EUnify determined their go-to-market strategy. In workshops, they refined their pitch, explored the value chain, and worked on positioning, target audiences, business models, and marketing. Today, they are already taking concrete steps towards commercialisation.

Outcome

The hackathon not only gave EUnify a platform but also a flying start. They tested their technology in a realistic setting, gathered valuable feedback, and built a network within the Defence sector and the broader industry. Their victory, combined with the support after the event, formed the perfect springboard to the market.
